We just released custom chart widgets to all Geckoboard users. Many of you have asked for this and I’m delighted to announce that you can now visualise your data in a pie chart, line chart or a speedometer style widget.
Like regular custom widgets, you provide a link to some XML or JSON and we pick it up and display it on your status board. You can find documentation on our support site but please just drop us a line if you need help with anything.
While I can think of tons of use cases for each of these charts, what excites me most is the potential they unlock in the hands of smart and creative people. It's been 6 weeks since I announced availability of custom widgets that allow you to load data from wherever you want into your Geckoboard status board; about 2 weeks ago we released YQL support for custom widgets making it even easier to see your data on your dashboard.
While it didn’t surprise me that so many of you are using them, I was taken aback by the resourceful ways they were being used by some people. Just yesterday, social media consultants and Geckoboard testers NixonMcInnes wrote about how they used their status board to display the happiness of their employees. It’s a superb example of an innovative and creative way to use Geckoboard and I’d love to hear how you’re using yours too.
In addition to custom charts, we released a slew of new features and enhancements today. I’ll be giving you the details separate blog posts in the next couple of days so stay tuned or subscribe to our RSS feed.
