Employee Net Promoter Score
This is a method for measuring how willing the employees are to recommend their workplace to friends and acquaintances.
eNPS is built based on the employees’ answers to the following question: On a scale from 0-10 (zero being not at all) how likely is it that you would recommend your employer to a friend or acquaintance?
Answers are then divided into three categories:
0-6 = ”Critics” or “Detractors”
7-8 = ”Passives”
9-10 = ”Ambassadors” or “Promoters”
To calculate eNPS, use the following formula:
# of Promoters
# of Detractors
Total # of Respondents
The major benefit with the eNPS is that it is a quick and and easy way to get an overview of how loyal and engaged a company’s employees are. eNPS is an excellent over time measurement metric that gives the possibility to see if different factors affect the employees over a period of time.
When using the eNPS method, keep in mind that the values on how likely the employees are to recommend the company do not say anything about other variables that make the employees thrive. Using this question alone makes it difficult to understand the underlying reasons behind promoting or not promoting the company. It is most useful when compared against previous eNPS scores.
Use ePNS as a starting point and think about designing more comprehensive surveys, or a few follow-up questions to gain a better understanding of people’s motivations, engagement levels and to gain input into their view of company direction.
