Performance data has become part of everyday life at MTD Training. Teams use it to manage workloads, celebrate sales wins, make confident decisions, and start conversations that wouldn’t have happened before.

MTD Training is a leadership and management training provider based in Coventry. Its Chief Operating Officer, Kelli Grinter, oversees operations, marketing, sales, apprenticeships, and finance, so understanding how each part of the business is performing is essential.

MTD had plenty of useful data, but it was spread across Salesforce, spreadsheets, and handwritten notes. Access was limited, and differences between reports meant teams didn’t always have a shared understanding of performance.

Kelli and the senior team wanted to make accurate, relevant information visible across the business. What followed was more than a reporting change. It changed how teams worked together.

Creating one shared view of performance

Salesforce remains central to how MTD works, but small differences in report filters could produce different results. Teams could find themselves discussing which number was right instead of what they should do about it.

With Geckoboard, MTD brings data from Salesforce, Google Sheets, and Google Analytics into one consistent view. Dashboards displayed around the office mean everyone sees the same information without teams having to change the tools they use to do their work.

Geckoboard provides that one stop shop for visibility across the business. Everybody sees the same information, information we know is accurate and relevant.

Instead of performance data sitting with a small number of people, it’s visible to the teams who can influence it. This gives conversations a shared starting point and helps people make decisions with more confidence.

Protecting the learner experience

The apprenticeships team uses its dashboard to manage the caseloads of its skills coaches.

Keeping caseloads manageable helps coaches provide consistent, high-quality support. Previously, it was harder to see how new learners would affect capacity across the team. Now, managers can spot increasing pressure early and redistribute work before it affects learners.

The dashboard shows us very quickly when new learners come on and how that affects capacity. It gives us a huge opportunity to get ahead of problems before they become a problem.

Better workload visibility also makes it easier for learners to stay with the same skills coach throughout their apprenticeship, giving them greater continuity of support.

Bringing more energy to Sales

MTD’s Sales team uses its dashboards to see both individual and team performance throughout the day.

For them to see not only their own success, but what their teammates are doing, it drives that friendly competition.

Visibility gives the team a clearer sense of progress and creates more opportunities to recognize strong performance. They’ve added themed photos to the dashboards and built simple rituals around them, including sharing Friday wins and ringing a bell when something worth celebrating happens.

The dashboards don’t feel like another report to check. They’ve become part of how the team stays connected and keeps its energy up.

Turning data into daily conversations

The biggest change at MTD goes beyond any individual dashboard or metric. Performance has become something people notice, discuss, and respond to throughout the day.

Team members check the dashboards while making a cup of tea. Conversations start across the office about what’s happening, what the numbers mean, and where someone might be able to help.

It is not just about data. It is about conversations. People interact with each other who might not usually, and that brings out a lot of passion in the team.

People across the business now share a stronger understanding of how MTD is performing. They can see their contribution, recognize the work of others, and take greater ownership of the results.

For MTD, making data visible didn’t just improve access to information. It brought performance into the open and made it part of the company’s culture.
